Post Prom Update
Unfortunately we have had to make the difficult decision to cancel Post Prom for this year. We have not been able to raise the funds needed and there does not seem to be much interest. We are hoping to continue to raise money and hold one next year.
PTSA Positions - Please Consider Volunteering!!!!!!!!!
(I promise we do not bite!)
We have had a volunteer to take on Treasurer - YAY! However, in order to operate, we must also have a Secretary or we can not continue as a PTSA.
Secretary - Attends Board and General PTSA meetings and takes notes. Maintains files with minutes, bylaws, and instructions that people write up. Average time per month: 2 hours
Positions We Need to Fully Operate:
Communications – This position creates and sends the PTSA’s Weekly Update (via email) using AtoZ as well as other messaging for the PTSA on our Facebook and Twitter accounts. In addition, this position oversees the PTSA website, which is maintained by our Website Administrator. We would love an adult to run this process but would also consider a responsible student for SSL hours and to put it on their college application (this could be a great opportunity for a student looking to study journalism, etc., in college!). Average time per month: In the beginning this work will likely take about 2 hours a week, but as you get used to it, it will drop to about 1 hour a week.
MCCPTA Cluster Coordinators for Damascus - This is a position that ensures that the Damascus perspective is taken into account when Montgomery County decisions are being made. You would participate in cluster and other Montgomery County level meetings (many are now virtual), representing the Damascus Cluster of schools and bringing back to our cluster information provided and decisions made. If you are interested in learning more, please contact Leander at [email protected] or Aimee at [email protected]. Leander can not continue next year as her student is graduating, so please consider joining Aimee in this very important position! Average time per month: 3 hours
Post Prom Co-Leader – We have one leader for next year but are hoping to find someone to work with her. This position oversees the Post Prom, which is designed to provide a safe and fun place for our students to go after Prom. Ideally, these volunteers would start fundraising in early Fall, including sending out requests to local businesses for donations. This role primarily organizes volunteers to plan and run post prom, sets meeting dates, keeps others on track with their assignments, and oversees the budget. Like to plan parties? This may be the perfect volunteer position for you!! Average time per month: 8 hours (2 hours / week).
Reflections Arts Program Coordinator - MCCPTA runs a county wide competition for National PTA's Reflections art program, which highlights original student work in visual and performing work. This position (which can be done from home!) coordinates submissions from DHS Students. Winners in the MCCPTA competition compete in state and national competitions and are displayed in a spring showcase run by the MCCPTA. This person communicates and coordinates submissions, which takes place between September and December. Average time per month: 2 hours Sept – Dec
